I'm back to freelancing as a Web developer again, and I'm at the stage where potential clients are everywhere, but actual clients are hard to find. It always seems like people want my services when I'm not available, and as soon as I'm available, they're busy or have made other plans. It's a lot like dating, actually!
I do still have a steady job, 10 hours a week at the Prairie Star District Unitarian Universalist Association, but what was my primary job in 2008 -- 30 hours a week, then 20, at Smartphone & Pocket PC magazine -- has dropped to a maximum of 5 hours a week as the magazine seeks a buyer. (Anyone wanna buy a magazine?) I turned away freelance business in 2008 -- and part of 2007, for that matter -- because I didn't have the time, and now the word of mouth I used to rely on has gone silent.
All the same, I had been looking forward to going back to freelancing all last year. It's nice to always have a new project, and to work with new people, and to make them happy. I just hadn't planned to go back quite so soon! Fortunately Jessie has a rock-solid career for at least 5 years and pulls in about 50% more income than I've ever done, and I still have some of my savings!
Anyway, if anyone you know needs a Web site, please point them to http://interdependentweb.com . Thanks!!
